MKOMAZI NATIONAL PARK

OVERVIEW

Mkomazi National Park is one of Africa’s lesser-known gems, located in northern Tanzania. It’s part of the larger Tsavo ecosystem, which spans the border between Tanzania and Kenya, making it one of the continent's most ecologically diverse protected areas.

HISTORY

Mkomazi was established as a game reserve in 1951 and later upgraded to national park status in 2008. It has significant historical importance, especially in terms of wildlife conservation, including the reintroduction of black rhinos and African wild dogs. The park’s dedication to these species has earned it global recognition.

BIODIVERSITY

The park is characterized by a rich biodiversity, with habitats ranging from arid savannahs to mountainous regions and riverine forests. This variety of landscapes supports a wide range of wildlife and plant species, making Mkomazi an ecological treasure trove.
